Fun on the Farm!

Orchard Ridge is Fun for the Whole Family

By Jess Gilman, Macaroni KID May 17, 2022

Orchard Ridge is an agritourism farm located on Rt 237 in Gorham. The 38-acre farm is operated by two sisters, Erica and Kristen and their mother, Mary. Visitors are invited to come share in their love of nature and local agriculture.

For Guests Who are Hungry.

Orchard Ridge has a farm market featuring locally-made products for purchase and a farm kitchen offering freshly prepared foods and drinks. Guests choose between taking their food to go, sitting in a tent-covered dining area or at an open-air picnic table. In the evenings, fire pits and string lights are lit for a cozy, outdoor atmosphere. The scene is perfect for relaxing with friends or enjoying some of their scheduled music events.

For Guests Who are Active.

Orchard Ridge invites guests to spend time freely exploring the outdoors. Walk one of the many trails throughout the orchards. During the harvest season guests can pick their own apples, blueberries or pears to take home. See the chickens that produce eggs for the market or better yet, order their own spring chicks to produce eggs at home!

For Guests Who are Curious.

Classes and workshops are regularly scheduled that allow guests to experience the pleasures of farm life firsthand. On Mother’s Day my family enjoyed a bird-house building class. The project was simple enough for my younger kids to enjoy, but interesting enough to keep the older ones engaged. Project materials, tools and instructions and a little help were included in the ticket price. We made wonderful memories and four new birdhouses for our yard!

Later this summer, we plan to attend a farm-wide scavenger hunt, a workshop for observing nighttime moths and live music performances under the stars!

My family really loves this type of low-key, outdoor, educational experience. For more information visit Orchard Ridge online, on facebook or call 207-712-1433.
